I'm new here and am looking for instructions on buttoning. I've done searches here and keep finding references to "Ruth's book", but can't find the name of the book or where to get a copy. I understand that it has very good instructions on buttoning and would like to get a copy if that is the case. Can anyone let me know the name of the book?
Liz, welcome to the forum - The book is called Complete Step by Step Upholstery, if you want a signed copy (£19.99) you can give me or Ruth a call at our workshop on 08452601964, or you can click on 'Home' above to go to the oldsofas website, or www.oldsofas.com where you will find a link to amazon.co.uk and can order it through them.
Once you've done all that can you please come back to the forum and leave another post stating that you are a real person and not another one of my nomes de plume. Of all the questions posted on this forum yours is my favourite by far.
Right, that's it. Favouritism has set in on this forum and no more posts will be winging there way from sunny (at last) France. Offense taken. Bla Bla Bla Life's not fair.
Just joking. All my posts from now on will be singing praises of THE book in upholstery - which I have and which is AMAZING
Actually, I am now at the stage on my chaise where buttoning is imminent and I'm going to try your method for the first time. It certainly looks more straightforward cutting holes after the calico is on and not before. I will let you know. Still haven't got my head round buttoning through all those springs though. I suspect the problem I have is that the French webbing is VERY close and allows no gaps so I have NO chance of seeing whether or not the knots are going around the springs. I'll work it out.
I know exactly what you mean Jean, after all I plug their book religiously through college - seems the students like the pictures rather than the wordy book of Desmond Gastons! ah well! BTW love the forum too David/Ruth!
I've got it - how to be the favourite, that is. (Was never a teacher's pet so going for it now). Forget the book - we all know how great that is. But how's Wilma??
