Any tips on how to focus on work on a beautiful day would be very welcome, i am working on a modern sofa, rebuilding the back at the moment and i just do not seem to be able to walk into the workshop today. Help.

Similar problem here. It never rains but it pours. Both in the workroom and out. However when it was raining outside I was waiting for fabric and the carpenter and so I had no work. Now it's beautiful outside and I have three chairs waiting, a fourth at the carpenter and a sudden order for 4 picnic table cushions and 3 sunbed cushions. Looks like my summer is accounted for! Still I can't complain. I'm currently the main bread winner here and until Max has other work coming in long may it continue.
Motivation? Not sure. But for me it's looking forward to putting on the top fabric. Then once I've started that stage I get sick of the fabric and can't wait for it to be finished! Not much help I suspect!
Any remedies for sore fingers? |

seems the sunshine has a bad effect on both of us. it is duller here today so should be able to get on better. I also am keen to get the top cover on then never want to see the piece again, well not for several hours anyway. Sore fingers, a soak in warm water infused with lavender oil, then a really nice massage with your favorite hand cream. Well back to work. |

| My suggestion is to allow yourself 5-10 mins. before you start working to relish the beauty of the day and let it make you feel invigorated. It just might give you the enthusiasm you need to go to work! |

It's a great idea Deborah but unfortunately those ten minutes tend to be used up clearing up breakfast while Max takes our son to school. Then the laundry gets hung up ... you know the sort of thing. By the time I've done all that and checked the ****** emails I've run out of 10 minutes and feel if I don't get into the workshop fast I'll be getting lunch ready! Still, got the springs onto the button back chair today and it will look great at the end. She's chosen a lovely fabric. Difficult to button but lovely. |

Hi, all . . . it is always difficult when the day is beautiful! My work days are generally 10:00 AM - 8:45 PM, so I don't get to see much of the day. I think the only time I see daylight is when I am out for my morning run. Then I ride my bicycle the half mile to my workspace -- and pretend I am in Europe!

Wish i had 10 mins to enjoy the day. My day starts with get up feed dogs, let cats out and give one her medication, have a cup of tea, off to the stables let out pony and goats. Feed stable cats, muck out pony and goat's stables. Return home check e mails and phone in any orders. Breakfast, then water the plants in pots. Open up the workshop and then my day begins. But i am not really moaning, its just when the weather is really nice it is sometimes hard to unlock the workshop door. |

Well i am super woman. But really it is not all bad i was just feeling sorry for myself, as here in England we do not get much good weather, i do feel cheated when we do have a nice spell and i am shut in. On the up side, the sofa i am currently working on, which i thought would throw up lots of problems is behaving really well. May have it finished tomorrow. Now i am off to the stables, no rest for super woman. |

I still don't get it. I thought I was superwoman!!!
Funny though how you used the expression about the sofa being "well-behaved". Exactly how I tend to think of the pieces I work on. My other favourite is "taming the stuffing". There're a few others to do with regulators/punctured fingers/blood but I don't think Lorre will let them stay on the board!

| Oh, puuhhlease! Are you kidding?! You should hear me when I accidently hammer a finger -- and more than once on any given day! Never mind that I've even bled on fabric! By the way, there is superwoman and then there is super woman and I think all of you girls are both! |

Thankyou for your kind words. Yes the air can turn blue when those nasty tools get vindictive, (not sure thats spelt correctly). I seem to be only getting sofa's at the moment, more money but they do takeup a lot of room. my garage is fit to burst, the poor cars have to shiver in the rain. And there's another sofa to go and see tomorrow. help i need more space. |
