Student decided to get out an upholstery book from the library - the good news it was your book, the bad news she was the only one who'd borrowed it!

My sister also writes books. About Islamic and Byzantine Art. Not a best selling subject either! Don't suppose you'd even find it in a library outside of the British Museum! I think she might even know each person who's bought copies by name!

We get a sales statement from the publisher every six months. Up to the 1st August this year 'Complete Step by Step Upholstery' had sold 13,714 copies - not bad seeing as it's only been on the book shelves since Feb 2005. Maybe people buy rather than borrow these days.

So David and Ruth...just supposing I had a friend (sic) who had an idea for an upholstery book but she was incapable of following one word with another in any recognisable order never mind taking photos and selling the idea to a publisher etc etc...

How would she sell the idea to you (on the understanding you might not think it was a goer) but still receive any benefit (and if so how much - let's cut to the bones of the matter here!).

I have the idea, I have the title and I know from experience it's not out there. Or if it is I haven't found it yet and obviously I can't ask you all here or it just might be a give away!

Any advice?

It's like the tale of Rumpelstiltskin. (guess my name and you can go free) How many guesses at the title of your book can we have?
And if we guess correctly do we get to escape from the tower and live happily ever after?
That would be nice

If you guess correctly, if I write it, if it's published I'll send you a free copy. (Gold star there surely?) However, as I tell my children you can guess all you like but I'll just say no.

Lots of if's there!

Ooh - that's not fair!
You get to make - and break - all the rules
Perhaps the title is ' Just like my mother - I know everything - you never stand a chance'
Come to think of it - I could write that one. And my children could too!

I thought you were a teacher...
I taught English here in France for 7 years. We did a lot of games and the first thing I wrote on the board when the inevitable cry went up was

LIFE'S NOT FAIR

I also handed out gold stars ... have I got one Miss?

Yes - you can have one straight away - and go to the top of the class - and have a smiley face too!
I'm not in the classroom anymore - I do advisory work and training with lots of teachers and other adults who come into contact with children in learning contexts.
I give out gold stars to them too. Let's face it - we all need praise, enouragement, pats of the back and constructive feedback from time to time.
Oh - I think I might be describing what this forum is about!?
